The Deepest Blue is an exhibition that blends history and contemporary art together by exploring water as a metaphor for mind's complexities. The four curated artists were paired up with a historical artist, and created works that are inspired by, or in response to, the works of Virginia Woolf, Frida Kahlo, Helen Frankenthaler or Zelda Fitzgerald. In bringing together the past and the present, the exhibition hopes to show a continuity and normalcy about mental health struggles. At the heart of the exhibition are four water-based themes — drowning, floating, rippling and respite — that correspond to how Woolf, Kahlo, Frankenthaler and Fitzgerald have discussed their experience in their works. The show moves away from a white cube gallery display to create an emotive and immersive space for viewer to reach deep into their own definitions of mental health.
