The pervasive misconception of Africans as a people without a historical, cultural and educational past made it expedient for concerned African scholars to come together to disprove that notion. Their argument is that, although unwritten, oral traditions carried on since pre-literate times represent repertoires of authentic beliefs and practices of African people. This book, Oral Traditions in Black and African Culture is the product of a four-day international collaborative conference on African culture jointly organized by the Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC) and Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo in December 2008 It is a bold attempt at not only understanding several aspects of African oral traditions but also drawing attention to the urgent need to save our dying cultural legacy.
