Product Description

Governments, organizations, civil society, and private individuals have all contributed to promoting equality between men and women. The gender agenda considers men and women as partners in development who need equal support to enhance their participation in culture, religion, governance, and the pursuit of economic opportunity. Most would agree that society has achieved considerable gains under the gender agenda. However, there are still significance disparities in the social, political, and economic status of women. It is the persistent marginalization of women that has led to policies and programs to empower women. Laudable as these policies and programs are, there is uneasiness among most men that they are not wanted as promoters of the gender agenda. This uneasiness is misplaced. The demands of globalization and the technological revolution have led to new societal challenges that can meaningfully be addressed only with the joint effort of both men and women. This book recognizes the critical interdependencies between men and women in dealing with the challenges that confront our common humanity. The book emphasizes the need to draw on the energies of both men and women to achieve the vision and goals of the gender agenda.
