There is a definite need to enhance the management skills of school leaders to achieve the objectives of qualitative improvement of education in Sri Lanka. According to a recent policy document ‘effective schools require effective school management … the school head is the key figure in the management of effective schools’. School principals should assume the role of leader and need to adopt leadership strategies and styles suitable for school organization.
