The Niger Delta has always been an economically and socio-politically active region. It has always been a region awash with the movement of peoples, ideas, and goods over time. The contributors, who range from historians, through artists, sociologists, and economists, to natural scientists, are agreed that this situation will continue in the future even as the nature and content changes. Many of the contributors focus on the theme of sustainable development in the region through time, and others on culture and heritage management, as well as globalization and the Niger Delta. They conclude that the future of the Niger Delta will be determined by its past and present. The current grave image of the Niger Delta is cause for concern, but not of despondency. Given the quality and variety of the contributors, these narratives, analyses, and interpretations are relevant to the continuing search for solutions to the Niger Delta question.
