The Book Democracy, Governance and International Relations is a collection of essays on the three main areas that appear in the title of the book. It essentially addresses the all-important issue of governance which many believe is the architect of the many challenges facing the nations of Africa. Either one talks about democracy or foreign policy, hardly will the dimension of governance not be raised. The book therefore believes that Africa will benefit from a courageous decision to appraise its governance system and makes the outcomes of such an appraisal the basis for re-directing public affairs in the continent. This call is even more urgent for Nigeria which prides herself as the leading nation in Africa. With many erupting issues of global significance occurring in Africa and given the manifest reluctance of the developed segment of the world to get more involved in Africa, along the lines desired by the continent, the burden is on Nigeria to show the lead by displaying all the best practices associated with democracy, governance and the conduct of external relations.
