Taming The Monarchs is the short title of the paper presented at the NBA Conference in Abuja in late August, 2008. The presentation was a bold attempt to draw attention to what our courts are inadvertently imposing on the people of Nigeria that their title are above the laws of the land because of the immunity from arrest, prosecution and service of process which section 308 of the Constitution grants them. It is being argued here that the media which have a constitutional duty to monitor governance on behalf of the people of Nigeria must gird their loins and tackle the monster which some courts are imposing on the people that their office when they perform the functions of the office. It will take a lot of persuasion to make Nigerians accept that corruption or money laundering is a function of office of the protected persons the president, the vice president, 36 governors and 36 deputy governors.
