Escape from Work describes how young Japanese are changing the way work is organized. Japans first affluent generation in the newly deregulated labor markets remain upheat in the face of rising youth unemployment. A new class of young people the so-called furiitaa who work only as casual employees are altering the traditional school-to-work transition. This study shows that many furiitaa have a healthy appetite for work and challenges Japanese policy-makers to integrate this new class into mainstream society.
