This book examines various aspects of the socio-economic transformation that occurred among the Cochin Jews after their migration to Israel. The Cochin Jews are a highly religious community compared with other Indian Jewish communities, with various rituals and traditions. The book argues that the issue of Cochin Jews ethnic identity and solidarity has to be understood in the context of the communitys relationship with the mainstream Israelis, on the one hand, and the way the Israelis view the Indian immigrants, in general, and Cochins Jews, in Particular, on the other, it focuses on the economic mobility, ethnic consciounsness, societal interface, inter-ethnic relations and the discriminations faced by the community.
