In 2004, Nadine’s son, Zack, was born with severe and complex congenital heart defects (CHD). He underwent major cardiac surgery when he was only ten days old. He developed complications and for many weeks his life hung in the balance. He received his life-saving surgery at Sunninghill Hospital. Sunninghill Hospital is also the home of the Walter Sisulu Paediatric Cardiac Foundation (WSPCF) which, over the years, has funded surgery for children from all over Africa. This unit remains the only hope for the many children born with CHD on the African continent. The WSPCF is an oasis of excellence and a national treasure where a dedicated team of professionals strive every day to improve the lives of African children.
