The Sarawak Land Code is a unique piece of legislation, reflecting the historical development of the State's land administration system since the arrival of the first Rajah in 1841 and the customs and traditional way of life of its multi-ethnic communities, but incorporating provisions which had facilitated the rapid social and economic changes and progress enjoyed by the State since 1 January, 1958 when this law came into force. Enacted during the colonial Administration, the Land Code had undergone multiple amendments but no revision yet under the Revision of Laws Ordinance, 1993. The last official version by the Government printer was released in 1999 and republished by the State Attorney-General's Chambers in 2003. This publication of the Land Code (with annotations), which incorporates all amendments up to 1 January, 2015, will enable all legal practitioners, land administrators and others whose work involved dealing with land and the application of the Land Code, to have a better understanding of the land administration system and the laws relating to land in Sarawak. The annotations are prepared by legal officers from the State Attorney-General's Chambers led by State Legal Counsel, Datuk JC Fong.
