This book was written in response to the need to provide a comprehensive presentation of the organization and administration of a centralized police service. Using the East African region as the general focus of centralized police systems, the book covers the National Police Service in Kenya where two parallel police agencies operate under a joint chief executive – the Inspector General. The book covers the historical background of policing and broadly highlights police units and formations, as well as the organization of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations. It also covers the contemporary issues facing policing and the general law enforcement process.
