The Special Task Force (STF) is an elite Para-military forces unit of the Sri Lanka Police, specializing in counter-terrorism and Counter-Insurgency operations as well as in providing VIP security. The STF heads Counter-Terrorism missions and, as the most highly trained police orgnisation in Sri Lanka, it would be the lead unit whenever Law Enforcement Forces engaged any terrorist activity during the 30 year long conflict. The STF is internationally recognized for its expertise in these areas and it is often invited to assist foreign law Enforcement Agencies with planning major events such as the 2008 Beijing Olympics and in dealing with possible terrorist threats. The 35th anniversary of the special Task Force symbolizes its distinguished and devoted services to the nation over the past three decades.
