Product Description

Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation Critical Perspectives and Debates in Public Policy is an attempt to discuss Zimbabwe’s 2013-2018 blueprint plan in a bid to bring scholarship and policy implications that it has in terms the planning and implementation of it. The book is written in a bid to portray the ex-ante position of the plan. Epitomised in 12 chapter contributions by different authors of different backgrounds – political science, education, urban and regional planning, development advocacy, sociology and economics, the book embraces a somewhat trans-disciplinary approach to the topic at hand, “ZIMASSET”. The subject ought to be embraced from various angles including the context of its launch, the spirit of its launcher, specifically the government of the Zimbabwe African National Union (Patriotic Front) (ZANU-PF), and environment for its operationalization. The environment has had its various internal and external challenges imposed on the part of the state as the chief implementer. The book acknowledges the pressure exerted by the international community on the country’s leadership in the form of ‘smart’ and ‘targeted’ sanctions. It questions how, ‘the sons of the soil’ now dislocated from the country in the name of ‘diasporans’ can or could as assist in the building of their besieged nation, as it were. It does not ignore the internal deformities explained by lack of application of Unhu/Ubuntu to curb corrupt and decadent practices among those engaged in state and private enterprise. The book is thus a masterpiece of scholarship in so far as tries to look into issues that make or unmake the provisions in the blueprint in an unbiased manner.
