Product Description

The Nepal-Britain Bicentenary Exhibition highlights the major milestones in the bilateral relations between the two countries through near two hundred reproductions of photographs, paintings, drawings as well as some originals sourced from premier institutions, museums, libraries and private collectors from Nepal and the UK and other places. The principal theme is the historical evolution of linkages from 1816 to 2016. The initial conflict underscored by the Anglo-Nepal war, 1815-16 and the Treaty Sugauli, followed by a sense of mutual mistrust that gradually mellowed a to a harmonious bilateral relationship, and formation of a unique geo political configuration --- a tiny portion of the huge land mass of Hindustan retaining independence and consolidating its sovereignty in an age of political harmony. Historic images with descriptive texts, derived largely from a book Sigha Durbar by Mr. Sagar Rana, coordinator of BIEX that traces the history of Nepal pre 1951tries to knit a homogeneous narrative or at least provide glimpses of this enigma.
