In the "Wartime Sketchbook" , the artist Tran Huy Oanh portrays the lives of the Vietnamese people and army in the war against America. The book includes 189 sketches by the painter, who took note of war scenes from 1965 to 1973 in Truong Son trail, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Central Highlands battlefields. Through the sketch, Tran Huy Oanh recorded his feelings toward humans, to the events of the battlefield. According to the artist, his paintings did not depict realistic battlefield scenarios but focused on the poetic character of the natural landscape and the simplicity of life. These are the daily activities of around the Rong house of the Tay Nguyen ethnic groups, workers repair rails, soldiers in the cultural festival... Tran Huy Oanh's work as a diary that helps readers and generations of Vietnamese soldiers to recollect the years of battle, living with local people.
