The book was made in nearly a decade and 37 years after the death of the general. The 800-page book contains 40 chapters with a large volume of material that is a useful reference for anyone interested in Vietnamese history from 1945 to 1975. This is a special memoirs because the general Cao Van Khanh was one of the few generals to be directly involved in commanding the most important and fiercest campaigns of the two long-term resistance wars. He was the one who was trusted by the general Vo Nguyen Giap (1911 - 2013) and was assigned to the most difficult and fiercest tasks since the early days of the anti-French resistance (holding the position of the head of V Military Zone with the fierce front in Nha Trang, An Khe), to the Border Operation in the year of 1952, the Dien Bien Phu campaign and the Operation LAM SON 719, the Summer 1972 Quang Tri campaign, and then General Offensive in the Spring of 1975 as deputy chief of general staff of Vietnam North communist army. On the other hand, the pages regarding large military campaigns are presented from a variety of perspectives, with a multidimensional view, so the book is a valuable addition to history, even to shed a light to many dark places or places with mixed controversial opinions.
