The book was written by Nguyen Thanh Viet (pseudonym Viet Thanh Nguyen) - the first Vietnamese American writer to win the Pulitzer Prize, and many other awards of literary associations for his writing career. He was born in 1971 in Vietnam, with his family evacuated to the United States in the summer of 1975. In this story, Viet Thanh Nguyen distinguishes between migration and refugees. Formerly a refugee in the United States, he said refugees are unlike Americans and completely contradict the "American dream." In fact, any refugee always comes with fear, failure and disdain. Therefore, writers want to be able to humanize them through stories, in order to help Americans accept and be open to refugees.
