The book provided a readership with a broad range of the issues & problems of Vietnamese spoken and written language such as: the origins of Vietnamese language; Vietnamese vocabulary from the XII, XIII centuries to the beginning of the XX century; Sino-Vietnamese borrowing words through bilingual contacts; changes and developments of Vietnamese vocabulary in the transitional periods; Vietnamese grammatical relics & vestiges from the XVII century to the XIX century through some remained written deeds. In history of Vietnamese linguistics, so far there were scatteredly the works that covering historic Vietnamese language, however, the genuine study of Vietnamese historic language in the linguistic direction only began to be interested from the 1980s of the last century at the University of Hanoi. So far, there are many complex issues and problems that are being discussed.
