The book is translated and published from French original Le Vietnam. Une histoire de Transferts Culturels (Demopolis Press, Paris, 2015) edited by Hoai Huong Aubert-Nguyen and Michel Espagne. The book consists of 21 discussion papers selected from ones that delivered at the French-Vietnamese / European-Asian Cultural Transfer Seminar held at the Paris-based College of Advanced Teachers (ENS) and the French National Library ( BNF) from 4th to 6th June 2014. The book’s discussion papers belonged to various disciplines: Vietnamese studies; art history and literature; social science; archives ... but all are aimed at a common focus of the topic of cultural transfer, which is applied to Vietnamese space. In this book, Vietnam is chosen as a typical reference system of cultural transfer, especially at the time of its exposure to the West, particularly to the French. That is to say, transfer phenomena were mainly studied in relation to France during the colonial period. The papers selected in this book are organized in five sections: 1 - Theory and history. 2 - History of thoughts. 3 – Building knowledge. 4 - Literature and art. 5 - Vietnamese bookcases in the National Library of France.
