The Machine Postmarks of Sri Lanka authored by Harsha Rupesinghe attempts to fill the void in knowledge of our machine postmarks. No other book has been dedicated to this important and interesting area of our country’s postal history. Machine postmarks are of two types: non-slogan and slogan postmarks. Slogan postmarks, which reflect the history of the country to a certain extent, are of wide interest. Some examples are ‘Are you a wireless listener’, ‘Go to the Motor Show’, ‘Write addresses fully and legibly’, ‘Do not pause while dialing telephone numbers’.
