Domestic violence has been known as one of the most prevalent yet relatively hidden and ignored forms of violence against women globally. It is one of the most chronically underreported crimes. Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another partner. Domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, and religion. Domestic violence can take many forms including physical abuse, sexual abuse and emotional, economic and psychological abuse. Many women do not report the abuse as they are ashamed that their marriages are not working and for most women in Iran, divorce is not an option at all.
