This is a powerful collection of poems in English by a well-known Tanzanian Swahili poet. The collection is organized into six broad themes some of which are not mutually exclusive: culture, war, change, love/friendship, reality or truth, and struggling for a better today and future. All poems in this book make statements that are relevant to the current cultural, moral, social and political challenges facing us in our countries, our continent and the world. The poet’s style is simple but forceful, and uses penetrating imagery to express his feelings, ideas and vision. Many of the poems in this collection represent a clarion call to us all to engage in the struggles to change the unjust social and political set-ups that are still the order of the day in much of Africa as well as other parts of the world.
