Reduction in gender inequality and empowerment of women were among the eight UN Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) that were expected to be achieved by 2015. Now, MDGs have been replaced by Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Till now, gender discrimination are noticed across different aspects of development like poverty, inequality, healthcare, education, ownership of resources, environmental management etc. Whether it is amelioration of poverty and reduction in inequality, we cannot think them without due emphasis on gender dimension.
