Myanmar studies among international scholars and researchers over the recent decades have been based in universities and institutions outside of Myanmar. Understanding of Myanmar Studies primarily dwelled on social science in Myanmar. However, the scope of Myanmar Studies has been becoming widespread and developing into a variety of focuses in recent years. Today, diversity of views and ideas has been emerging due to the impact of democratization process followed by socio-economic and political changes in Myanmar. Thus, Myanmar Studies has become an umbrella term that can cover every disciplinary, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary research focusing on Myanmar. With recent democratic and political liberalizations, it is the right time for the Republic of the Union of Myanmar to organize international conferences on Myanmar studies. “Reorienting Myanmar Studies in Myanmar” is a conference which is expected to serve as a platform that encourages a new direction in local and foreign scholarships on Myanmar. Therefore, we may find new perspectives discussing newly-emerged researches, both local and foreign, on a variety of disciplines.
