In the years 1963-1968, Nam Son Publishing House in Saigon published a set of Summarizes Research on Literature of Nguyen Van Trung, including three volumes: General literature issues; Literary and dramatic language; Literary research and criticism. As Professor of Philosophy, Nguyen Van Trung has conditions to explore and apply achievements of contemporary aesthetic trends: psychoanalysis, existentialism, structuralism, new fiction, new criticism, the theory of reception. The book helps readers familiarize themselves with the names and conceptions of famous Western scholars such as F. de Saussure, R. Jakobson, G. Lanson, J.P. Sartre. It can be said that, until the 1960s in Vietnam, this is a set of literary theory books with the most updated systematic modern ideas. In his intention to contribute to solving problems posed from the history of Vietnamese literature, Nguyen Van Trung has linked the theory with the practice of national literature and initially gave suggestions to the composers and critics.
