Product Description

The Tale of Kieu is an epic poem in Vietnamese written by Nguyen Du (1765–1820), and is widely regarded as the most significant work of Vietnamese literature. In 3,254 verses, written in luc bat ("six–eight") meter, the poem recounts the life, trials and tribulations of Thuy Kieu, a beautiful and talented young woman, who has to sacrifice herself to save her family. While modern interpretations vary, some post-colonial writers have interpreted it as a critical, allegorical reflection on the rise of the Nguyen dynasty. The Narration of "The Tale of Kieu" through 20 southern Vietnamese amateur music was adapted, composed, repositioned lyrics as an adaptation of another type that is Southern music. This book gives readers a version of "The Tale of Kieu" with a style different from the original poem form, or another prose novel. The work of the writer Hoang Than has made efforts to change the original story structure to better fit the melody of the Southern amateur music.
