The contact of East-West culture and the process of social and cultural transformation in Vietnam in the early modern period is a big problem in the process of cultural history in particular and national history in general. During that period, Vietnam became a typical colony of French colonialists. The French have policies and intent to assimilate Vietnamese culture in ways such as eliminating Confucian influence, limiting traditional values; creating a coercive Western civilization environment, bringing almost all kinds of Western cultural activities into Vietnam. The Vietnamese culture and society gradually changed, along with the change of cultural models and institutions, new forms of cultural activities also gradually formed. The content of the book presents theoretical and general issues on cultural conditions and changes under the impact of East-West cultural contacts and clashes in Vietnam in early modern times.
