On October 1, 2019, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) celebrated its 70th anniversary of foundation. Over the past seven decades since Chairman Mao Zedong proclaimed the establishment of the PRC in October 1949, the country has grown from a land of extreme poverty to the world’s second-largest economy. The Chronicle of the People’s Republic of China (October 1949–September 2019) provides a chronological account of all the major events that happened during the period covered, and showcases the illustrious achievements that China has made in different areas, such as politics, economy, culture, education, diplomacy, military, science, and technology. The book seeks to help readers gain a better understanding of the arduous yet glorious journey that the Chinese people has undergone, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC), in building a modern socialist country with Chinese characteristics.
