The book traces the origin of Nigeria Civil Service to the colonization by the British in the nineteenth century of the three territories which together later became known as Nigeria. It discloses that the main purpose of establishing the Service was to assist the colonisers in the maintenance of law and order in the areas being colonised. It deals with the gradual integration of the three services from 1898 until they emerged as one service in 1914.
