Divine Direction tells the incredible story of a youngman’s journey, by land, from Nigeria to Europe. Born inLagos, Ese Oduko was sent to Kirikiri prison when hewas 16 for a crime his brother committed. In a crowdedcell with 48 other men, he promised himself that if heever got out, he would find his way to Europe and makea living from his talent – playing football. As soon as he was released, Ese started his journey. Stilljust a child, he navigated the unrelenting danger andprecarity of life as an illegal immigrant on the move. Hetraveled through Benin, Togo, Burkina Faso, Niger, Ghanaand Mali, sleeping rough, finding work in restaurantsand barber shops, but continuing to play and practicefootball wherever he went. Through his faith in God, hisdetermination, and the life-changing kindness of thepeople he met along the way, Ese made it to Europe. Heplayed for clubs in France, Malta and Italy before movinginto management and coaching in the UK. After becoming a pastor in 2008, Ese felt God callinghim to return to Nigeria to do His work. He establisheda football academy there to help underprivileged andhomeless children, and is about to launch a new youthproject in collaboration with the Nigerian government
