After many ups and downs, in 1802 Nguyen Anh won a victory over the Tay Son army, establishing the Nguyen dynasty and opening the reign and lasting 143 years of the last monarchy in Vietnam. During his reign, the first 4 kings of the Nguyen Dynasty, from Gia Long, Minh Mang to Thieu Tri, Tu Duc worked hard to build a strong centralized monarchy state apparatus. As a result, compared with the previous Vietnamese monarchies, in the first 8 decades, the Nguyen dynasty built a fairly complete state apparatus from the central to the local. The state apparatus of the Nguyen Dynasty was built on the basis of selectively inheriting the previous Vietnamese and contemporary Qing (Chinese) state apparatuses. Over the course of its operation, this dynasty built and operated a fairly complete and effective supervisory agency system.
