With this new book, a page of the history of Chilean diplomacy and the War of the Pacific, which had remained hidden for almost a century and half, is resurrected. But, the most interesting thing about this book is its plot, which is deeply connected with Turkey and the reign of Sultan Abdulhamid II. It can certainly be affirmed that the decision of the Sultan not to sell the ironclad to Peru greatly determined the course and the results of the War of the Pacific. What would have happened if the Peruvian Navy had managed to purchase the Feth-i-Bulend or some other Turkish armored ship at some stage of the war? History would probably been very different.
