My story began somewhere in one of Africa's boisterous cities-Lagos, Nigeria. By growing up in this beautiful city, regarded as the commercial nerve center of Africa, I got exposed to pretty much everything: the good, the bad, the ugly, and a blend of everything. So, just before you read on, let me throw a disclaimer. This book is no way a perfect story of someone living in a glass house with a golden spoon in her mouth. Instead, what you will find here is a tale of growing up in the streets, the whole vicissitudes of experiencing life on the other side of the divide. By now, I am sure you already know what I mean. But if you don't, then let me just cut to the chase and confess that it is a story of tenacity, the pursuit of purpose, possibility, and passion, which later birthed a love for my country and the zeal to rebuild it. A Walk in the Desert is a clarion call to every Nigerian that we can become more, that we can build a country that we will all be proud of. Of course, it won't be easy-it is not supposed to-but with shared commitment and focus, we can turn things around and birth a new story of shared greatness. As I share the story of my life in Morocco with you, the motive is to ignite hope, trigger dedication and provide inspiration that you and I need to become change agents in our respective circles of influence. National development is a collective effort, where every step taken in the right direction, no matter how small, can make a big difference. To make this journey, every hand must be on deck. May this book inspire you as we commit to creating the change we want to see. – Taiwo Mise
