This is a valuable collection and review of classical Vietnamese literature. Reciting songs (lyric epics) along with narrative epics (Nom stories) are two typical genres for ancient - medieval literature, mainly in the 18th - 19th centuries. It contains the vast and varied content of the times and people, and as such, it is not only a form of literature but a form of content. The chants mentioned here carry the sentiments of the Vietnamese people of that century (war, chaos, separation, anger, grief, etc.).
