The effort of the Nigerian Air Force among others in checkmating terrorism is highly commendable as modern warfare could not be effectively fought and won without airpower. *** Nigeria has witnessed the Boko Haram insurgency since 2009, resulting in the displacement of millions of people in the North East. Terrorism in the zone is primarily perpetrated by the extremist group, Boko Haram and recently, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). Their activities include suicide bombings, mass killings, kidnappings and attacks on military and civilian targets. The Nigerian government, in collaboration with regional partners through the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), consisting of troops from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon, has been conducting offensives and counter terrorism operations in the Lake Chad Basin to dismantle the terrorists' strongholds. These efforts have recorded tremendous success, though, intermittent attacks from the terrorists do occur. The editors of the book have chronicled measures implemented by the Nigerian Government to enhance intelligence gathering, border security, counter terrorism capabilities and collaboration with international partners to bolster security forces' capacity whilst providing training and resources. The book also brought out the need to address the root causes of terrorism in the North East for sustainable peace and security using a multi-faceted and comprehensive approach. It is gratifying to know that strategies such as enhancing military operations, strengthening intelligence sharing and cooperation among security agencies within Nigeria, and other countries as well as sustained community engagement and trust building have been identified as being crucial to defeating terrorism in the region. Above all, collaboration and coordination between the government, security forces, local communities, and international partners would be required to sustain progress in the fight against terrorism in the Northeast.
