Ever since its introduction, the reservation policy has been arousing controversies, debates, tensions and conflicts in the Indian Society. Mahatma Gandhi, a staunch crusader of the cause of Harijans, opposed this policy by proceeding on a fast unto death. The court cases filed by individuals and groups challenged it on the ground und that such a policy violates the constitutional commitment of equality and justice. The question of reservation, however, has remained unattered and the worst sufferers of which are the government employees belonging to non-scheduled castes category.
